On the 1st of the month (or as close as possible to it) a new theme will be drawn at random from the list of Topics, and posted in a new thread on this forum. Post your images as replies in the thread.
During the month, try to post at least one good, new photograph on the theme. (There is no point in using old photographs as the aim of this challenge is to improve your photography!)
You can post as many images as you want. If you wish, you can chose one as a ‘final entry’ – the one you think is your best image that month. Edit the title of your chosen image so it looks like this:
“Month” Entry – “Title” (e.g. December Entry – Santa Comes To Town).
This will make the image stand out as the one you’re choosing.
This is not a competition: you simply shoot for your own enjoyment, progress and sense of achievement. The point of choosing a ‘final entry’ is to practise judging your own work objectively. (I’m sure others will give you constructive feedback about your choice!)
You may want to add notes under your images to help others understand how you made them: camera, lens, focal length, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, flash lighting scheme, special conditions. (Or we may ask for this information if we are interested in a particular image and it doesn’t have these details.)
Helping each other
Please view and critique other people’s entries, as this will aid your critiquing skills, and help others take better pictures. Keep your critiques brief and constructive; and if you receive a critique, try to avoid getting into a lengthy discussion about it. (But if some interesting discussion emerges that you want to pursue, we can always move it to ‘All About Photography’.)
There’s an initial list of monthly themes in the ‘Topics’ post. Further suggestions are very welcome; please write them in a reply to the Topics post. If you really don’t like one of the themes in the list, please post a reply to the Topics post to say why.
Meg / Pete / Dee >>> Glad you like the outline. Now we only have to get creative with the photos! The first theme out of the hat – Through The Window – is quite a challenge to be original about. I’m looking forward to seeing what we all come up with. Go for it!
