You can spend hours poring over reviews in magazines trying to decide about particular bits of kit. It is always worth asking here if any members have that bit of kit. You may get a more useful practical opinion than reading a dozen more tests! They may even have the gear you want for sale!

Our members have Canon, Nikon, Sony and Fujifilm equipment – and very probably more that I am not aware of.

I think we’ve all been there John. Having been out enjoying photographing landscapes, I really need a decent wide angle lens. In days of film camera I had at least one good wide angle lens. So would appreciate any info on reasonable digital ones, as I’m going to the Photography show . Any ideas I’ll be at club on Thursday, or post ideas.

I have learned a lot from other Canon users at the club. Everyone is happy to share their techniques and advice.
Meg, I have an old Canon 20-35mm you’re welcome to borrow and try out if you wish.

Well folks … I have taken the plunge at the Photography Show and now have a Pixapro lumi 400 twin soft box studio lighting kit to play with. Very impressive spec and a 2 year warranty. Two 400w fan cooled heads, stands, 2 x 60 x 90 softboxes, 1 reflector and a 16 channel wireless trigger kit. It comes in a wheeled case that takes everything…. all for £350 a show offer. Out of the case, plugged everything in and it works perfectly. Hardly any delay between shots. Now I have the summer to experiment! Omigosh! I weighed up all the options and while this is heavier than the elinchrom d-lite 4 … it is also considerably cheaper by a good £250+. Having had the opportunity to try the d-lite 2 thanks to Peter H. I can say that this is much, much faster at recharging. Can’t fault the quality and as the suppliers are in Birmingham I can knock on the door if I need anything. Happy birthday to me indeed! 🙂

    All advice now appreciated! 🙂

Glad you found a good buy Dolores, I wasn’t quite so lucky. Offers on the things I was interested in were not tempting enough and I’ve also found that some special prices have now become the standard. Other members made purchases though; printers, monitors. Even without the bargains it is a great chance to try things out. Was amazed by the new Fuji 100-400, IS very good.

Yes John had a look at that lens, and a good price only £1500 compared to a Canon ‘ I ‘ lens. Might be temped in the future
