Our exhibition in Crewe Library, which runs through February, may not be as big as we would have wished but will certainly raise local awareness of CPS.

I have already made an A3 montage of work from everyone who has entered competitions this year and we will want to use at least one print from everyone who submits work.

I wonder what messages to promote the club members would like to be seen along with the work? No essays, just short comments.

Why would someone join a club? What are the benefits? What do we stand for?

I think we should just have a short bullet pointed list of the benefits of joining Crewe Photographic Society. How about something like:

    Why join Crewe Photographic Society?

    • A friendly environment to enjoy and improve your photography
    • A varied programme of guest speakers, competitions and demonstrations.
    • We are on-line with Facebook, Flickr, Twitter and an active website.
    • Members have exclusive access to our Website’s forum to share their photographs.
    • We meet every Thursday evening at Crewe’s Lifestyle Centre
    • Our membership is a good mix of skills, ages and both sexes.

    That’s the idea.

Sorry I made the classic mistake of replying to this by email a while ago.

Totally despair  with this forum format—not for the first time by far. Here just  typed a quite long thought out response–click submit and it has yet again disappeared. Give up.

I’m sorry to hear that Ken and I’m not sure what happened there. It’s never happened to me. It must be very frustrating. Can you give me any more information about what happened?

Briefly-is the 70th  photo album being left on display–not heard about it lately . While you are quite right Peter, best leave out “Both sexes” as it gets misconstrued nowadays. In fact we are not a good mix are we. Mostly middle age to elderly with a few ancient vintage types like me. All white  British and doubt it will not alter very soon. All people are welcome.

Ken himself was kind enough to arrange contact with someone who could get us exposure to the Polish people in Crewe and we will have messages in Polish in the display.

Photography, like music, is a language all can understand.  I  was thinking of a few statements to provoke people into using that langage, or realising that already use it, to tell us about the way they see things.

Ah -when music and photography met to give that memorable film clip never to be forgotten. When Andre Previn questions  Ernie Morcambe”s playing of Griegs piano concerto- Ernie took Previn by the collar saying –I am playing all the right notes–but not necessarily in the right order. !!!   There is nothing wrong with photography which is alive and kicking as seen by Flicker having millions of excellent images posted. The problem is attracting people into  photo clubs. My dear friend at Altrincham tells me they are down to 15 members. There are 5,000 people at Bentleys and almost the same at Leighton Hospital but we attract none. Then the Polish community??  Clubs need to study and explore into exactly what would bring in members. We are still the same as 60 years ago and need to move on. It is also within clubs. Members   providing  very high class photography –end of.  Five years on with this excellent website with Forum-but so few are bothered to participate. My friend gives  painting  art lessons each Monday and people queue round the corners to get in. There is the need and it is an opportunity for clubs to re-jig the whole concept that will appeal to the masses again.   A brain storm of one hundred ideas–here are two or three. Meet every two weeks—awards for best smart phone pic- best last summers holiday abroad image- members best pet photo(remember the Crewe Chronical -peoples pet photo”s always highly supported)  – pub lunch with a stroll around with cameras. So on and so on. Is the 70th Photo Album to be displayed.

Thanks for posting that Ken. It concerns me too about our falling and aging membership. Like you say it’s a general trend most camera clubs are facing. We have a lot of competition from modern technology and other organisations. I was speaking to a videographer on Tuesday who was interested in seeing what we do, when I told him we meet on Thursdays he said that clashes with his gym session but he’d try to come down. I think the ‘brain storm’ idea is a good one and something we could do at the forthcoming committee meeting and of course we need to ask all members for their ideas. So we could do this on the forum and perhaps during an open meeting at the club.
