Sorry. I’m playing catch up with this assignment. With the 3 examples that Ian posted I like the middle one best (creep, creep). Seriously though I quite like the first one but I would have probably lifted the subject higher in the frame with the graduation being darkest at the bottom leading the eye to it. In Ian’s shot i like the interplay of the warm tones and the texture of the wood. However, I think the light horizontal line detracts a bit. In the third one I think I would have cropped out some of the dark boarder to centralise the subject more and darkened the right and bottom a bit more.

Meg’s shots made me think. I’m not sure what you mean by Black on Red or Red on White. On my screen in the second image the background is light blue and in the first it is black.  To my eye the objects are a bit to near to the edge I would have probably put them closer together. I’m a simple soul and I don’t really understand modern art and need it explained to me. How about using side lighting to play around with the shadows and use them in the composition?

It is blue on mine too Pete but I thought it was meant to be.  You had your white balance set to tungsten again Meg?

The dictionary says “abstract” is to do with thought rather than matter. This is none of those.

Doesn’t Tracy Emin do conceptual art rather than abstractionism? Back to the topic!!! (After looking at some paintings by Rothko and Pollock!) 😉
