I can see what attracted you about this shot, Ken: the orange makes a great complementary colour contrast with all the blues in the background. I know how much you like a good colour palette! 😉

Phew! Nearly too late. I was being very honest and sticking to people pictures taken this month as we are supposed to do. Apart from a blurry set of a chap burnishing a harmonium (honestly!) I hadn’t taken any this month until yesterday at the Transport Festival in Audlem. So here is a man and his dog.

I was sitting next to Ian when he took his bowls picture. I took a shot too, within seconds of Ian and it is interesting to compare the two shots. Ian concentrated on the “action” and has the nice diagonal (HCB style) going through the picture, through the bowler and wood. I concentrated on the shapes of the three guys compared with the tree behind.

I thought you might like to see my shot, then Ian’s, next to each other.

    .

Incidentally, those criss-cross marks on the grass must be caused by the wheels of the irrigator, the water will run down the wheels and the grass underneath gets more water. There you are, you even get gardening tips!

And a very fine man and his dog it is, too, John!  Lovely engagement between the two of them (big tick for timing!); and the predominance of blues and reds gives it a coherent colour palette. Nice!

(Interesting comparison between our two ‘bowling’ pictures. Just shows you how much a small move to one side or the other transforms the PoV, and therefore the composition.)

    Thanks Ian.

Here is a cluttered thing I took yesterday. I just loved the way the three guys were enjoying their natter over the old Douglas motorbike.

and another, same idea, on the restored horse-drawn narrow boat “Saturn”.
