MegMeg what does the normal look like or black and whiteOctober 29, 2012 at 1:47 pm #1656
What the image looked like before I did a bit of photoshop on it? Is that what you mean? If it is it was in colour, but some of the definition was lost (so rather than do my usual as Miss D knows I delete the image), I then had a play about in photoshop and hey presto I salvaged a dodgy image. Does that answer your question Paul ?
Oh by the way forgot to thank Ian for reposting it on the correct site, Ian will see you Thursday to tell me how you did it, or if its only the administrators that can repost items. Thanks anyway.

Just interested to see the oe but if it was dodgy then I get it lol. Wish I could delete photos I have so many that are with nothing maybe I should just be strongOctober 30, 2012 at 10:41 am #1661
I think as Dolores has pointed out often to me, I delete a massive amount of images (because of them not being sharp or good enough) I may have wasted an image that could be used in photoshop or some other programme. So whilst its good to declutter your hard drive every so often and be hard on yourself, just ask yourself if you could reuse it somewhere else. If the answer is still no then go ahead and delete them.October 30, 2012 at 4:27 pm #1664
Well done on posting Meg … I knew you could do it! I must admit that for me this is not one of your best images and like Paul wish you had the original to go back to for comparison and maybe start again with a lighter hand. The treatment is a little heavy but does remind me of some of those 70’s Art posters that would have 4 in a square in different colourways in some trendy pop stars groovy pad. As an example of that kind of retro inspired image, which is I guess what you were aiming at, it really works.
It does take a while to see the potential in an image sometimes and ‘gung ho’ deleting can lead to costly mistakes. I know you have accidently deleted originals by mistake Meg and regretted it. Sometimes there is a picture within a picture that you have not previously spotted as one of our people who came and gave a talk pointed out last year. I don’t think that pin sharpness is always paramount these days as I have seen a number of images with ‘added’ noise and grain as we get artier. If an image is to have textures and layers added or could be used as part of a background then it can be worth hanging on to especially if the composition / colours / subject are pleasing. But … no harm in the occasional clear out as long as you are careful.

Thanks Dolores I may still have the original and as you know its taken me a wee while to use photoshop so for that point I was quite happy with the Warholeseque style of portrait. As you say I may post the original on for comparison and go back and try a lighter touch to it. And no I haven’t deletd en masse after your remonstrations to me. So watch this space and look out for the original. As always happy to take on board any suggestions.October 30, 2012 at 6:12 pm #1669October 30, 2012 at 6:14 pm #1670
Heres the original as promised, told you it wasn’t up to much. What do you think. MegOctober 30, 2012 at 7:12 pm #1671
Lovely! Nice expression, direct gaze, and colour palette.
Maybe just needs the exposure increasing slightly, perhaps a touch of fill light, and a bit more contrast? (All tweakable in Lightroom / Photoshop.)October 30, 2012 at 7:55 pm #1673
Personally, I prefer the original and like Mac says with a bit of TLC in photoshop it could have been improved to make a really nice portrait.October 30, 2012 at 8:34 pm #1674
You know I’m sitting here shaking my head wondering if I’m missing something. Because thats why I altered the orginal to a Posterised version. But I understand what you say perhaps I need to tweak the original as mac says to see what it looks like. I’ll have to do it in Photoshop as I don’t have lightroom.
