PAUL   you have produced some beautiful and imaginative photo”s this year – most we have seen on your forum. In fact  two of yours  I have chosen for my Christmas cards.  I for one get your point about competing well in “nature”   but when you study most of these excellent photo”s they are not clever photography– but being able to get  to locations where the  creatures are. Saying and I share your concern  about low scores—but its not because of poor photographs–more that the points system debases club photography and dubious judging. And I say that having twice won the  annual cup with a 35  and a 49  year old image. Lady in Sarlet is by far a real first class photo and easily the best we shall see this year.   Look at many of the other top scorers and ask yourself if you would swap.

It seems to me that there is an opinion that a new category of MONO be included in the PDI competitions next year, with 4 images max being submitted. The next thing to be discussed is the make up of the categories, how many images in each category? My view would be to limit the entries to Two images in each category. Should  the number of images that count towards the league score be reduced to 4 from the present 5{ which was changed last year  from 6 to 5 with one dissenting voice,) I would be in favour of dropping the number to 4.

    Your views are awaited.

I also would like to see a monochrome PDI section. I think it would encourage more members to produce monochrome chrome images. We’ve got several options we could consider to fit in an extra league competition. We could replace the PDI knock out or even the annual comps?  Like John says perhaps making the portrait comp a PDI would encourage more entries. However, personally I think a good print beats a good PDI.

I think the portrait comp should go. And if you get the opertunity to actually take portraits then they should be in the general as this again is limiting people from entering. Or portraits should not actually be in the general at all thus leaving more space or general photos. with me lookinging the way I do I can’t point my camera at people without having problems plus I can’t afford to get modals. I loose out.

I agree with you PAUL – we should raise the portrait standard as in the good old days. What about making it easy- super models but  ” town and country” locations instead of lighting.  A small group of us   -starting on the  steps in Memorial Sq. Classy models and props.  Then get permission to do some stuff in Bridgmere   . How does that grab you.

At the Committee Meeting next Tuesday I’ll be putting a summary of your ideas to the Committee. There will be a further CM before the AGM where any proposals which seem to have good support will be put to all the members.

Looks like we have support for a mono section in the PDIs (itis an L&CPU category anyway) and I think we might be able to go up to 4 images per comp (after all, we do have a built in way od controlling entry numbers – just not submitting image 4!) – but I think we should perhaps accompany that with the proviso that you only enter 3 in a section. What do you think?

The idea of going for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, HC, C – looks like a mixed feeling on that. Of course we already do that for the Annuals.

On Ken’s point, we do have an annual exhibition but of images already judged. It would be possible to ask people to submit two prints but the exhibition is not at a great time of year for that really.

If we make radical changes we will have to look at the distribution of trophies too.

As there is a built in way of controlling numbers we would seem to have nothing to loose in giving it a try. I hope the Committee passes the idea.

A mono section is a good idea, but as some one who takes a greater perecentage of portraits I hope there still is room for this catergory. It may give others who don’t submit prints the chance to at least even out the odds a little.

Meg, we do have the Maurice Ashwin Portrait Competition.

Yes I know we do John, but I was under the misconception that that one would be replaced by any new extra competitions for the PDIs. I’m still in favour of the PDIs getting extra slots, as the prints are allowed more entries on average. So to have an equal billing for both would be great.
