This years Taylor Wessing Phohotgraphic Portriat prize has been won by David Titlow. The photograph shows the photographers son reach for a dog. Runners up were Jessica Fulford-Dobson’s Afghan girl with Skatboard and Twin Boys kneeling next to their grandmothers hen by Birgit Puve’s. The exhibition is on at the National Portrait Gallery until 22nd February.

You can see the winning Taylor-Wessing pictures Meg refers to here

There’s also a ‘Portrait Salon’ exhibition of the best portraits that were rejected by the Taylor Wessing competition here

Carole Evans and James O’Jenkins had the idea of using the “second best images” from the Taylor-Wessing a couple of years ago. It makes good sense, there are thousands of entries and so few are chosen (I visited last year and you think “Well those were good, but is that all?) so there are many gems among rejects.

Carole and Jame’s exhibition (a sort of Salon de Refuse) is exhibited as follows..

6th November – 11th November: Four Corners, London.

4th December – 3rd January 2015: Fuse Art Space, Bradford.

9th January – 9th February: Oriel Colwyn Gallery, North Wales.

19th February – 16th April: Napier University, Edinburgh.

With venues to be announced in Birmingham & Bristol for 2015.

Why not go along. I’ll put it on the EVENTS calendar later to remind you. Looking at the real photos is a much better experience.

The link I gave to the Portrait Salon above is the ‘Salon des refusés’ organised by Carole and James that John is referring to.
