Thanks for putting the photographs on the front page. It shows that given the chance members are willing to take on work that is hard but worthwhile and lets them put their skills into action alongside club nights.

Yes, I would like to say thanks as well.  I think it is good that we are able to share a wide variety of images.

One subject I was working on for the front page I had already started; to celebrate the work of individual members. This week we broke from that and Peter did a feature about your Rat Pack shoot. Have you any ideas as to how we can keep this approach going? How about items about other shoots, individual or groups.

Incidentally, the plan is to move front page material on to the News pages each week so that it will always be there both as a record of club affairs and to show the world what happens at CPS.

I have another item about a member’s successes this last season but after that we could feature some other work; ideas please.

Agreed, it was quite an experience. The lighting was extremely difficult to master as it was constantly changing.  The centre spot burnt out its target and those surrounding were covered in pink or green lighting half the time.  I think we all learnt a lot and  am pleased that we all came away with something from the night.  Quite interesting to see all 4 of us using different approaches, kit and levels of experience.

More of these sort of  experiences please!

John, there should be enough images from some of the Tutbury excursions to make a feature and montage. Also your canal walk.  What about this years battle of Nantwich ?  There were several members there although I was working.

John has inspired two leads recently , I am not sure the last aforementioned is quite what John has in mind.”Some other work-ideas please”-I would engage this to mean a change away from the regular stuff. For me this inspires an opportunity to stretch the imagination and open the mind to possibilities. While there is nothing new in photography, its not only subjects but a fresh way to photograph them –for instance. There would to me seem no point trawling through the routine stuff to find “ideas”. Peters theatre photo”s are an inspiration and not only different but so well photographed.Recently I have dabbled with infra red—still life–back to film as there comes a point to try something different. Now recently John mentioned using “ART” in photography, painting /pictures always thorny –but other works of art–sculptures etc. Ok. Last week David Hockney was interviewed about his current exhibition which is art—pictures created from acrylics and digital photography.Superb they are but hard to see which bit was acrylic and which photography.Wise old owl was giving nothing away though, when asked about one picture –how many photographs were used–he said about 200!!!!He is 78 this year -so stretching the mind is not the just for us senior citizens-anyone can.At risk of putting David Hockney out of business I just had to dabble. My latest watercolour and recent photo—will accept£750 –cash only.

Thank you Ken but I am perfectly clear as to what John is asking. He said:

” I had already started; to celebrate the work of individual members. This week we broke from that and Peter did a feature about your Rat Pack shoot. Have you any ideas as to how we can keep this approach going? How about items about other shoots, individual or groups.”

The norm is to feature one picture by one member. The Rat Pack Cover shows the work of 4 members at the same occasion with a write up.

John is asking for suggestions for  similar cover pages as a promo for what members get up to together – to encourage membership. It shows the more social side of the club. These group efforts will be interspersed with the usual articles on individuals work.

We have to fill the page every week throughout the summer and for that reason, up and coming weeks will need to feature events that have already happened until new work is available.  Hence Tutbury, The Battle of Nantwich, the Canal walk and some of the other events where CPS members have met up at provide an opportunity for similar features showing the work and experiences of more than one member at a time.

I am sure that Pete, Wallace and Ian have met up at occasions and can come up with suggestions.  Martin is going to an event that Meg and I will be attending but that is in September. If members can be aware that if they do bump into a couple of people from the club anywhere whilst out with their cameras then they should let John or Pete know asap so they can put a feature together.

John, I have to admit that one of the most rewarding aspects of our “Rat Pack” experience was that we all shared our knowledge and helped one another to achieve some good images.  I like the idea of using similar group activities like Tutbury, Audlem etc. to show a different side to club photography, perhaps individual members could give a brief insight on how they achieved a particular shot? not to wordy just enough to add some flesh to the image.

Yes, and we also have the Flickr site we can use as a source of material; so there is plenty of stuff that we can use to promote the club. Even during the season material of that kind can be used as well as competition successes.

Who is going to be first to submit something? A complete article is not essential; as Dolores says, some bare bones at least, together with pictures, is all that is needed.

Yes, who will dare to be first.  I have an excuse I don’t currently have access to my images but I do have a few ideas.

Let’s hear them Martin. We need a lot material to keep going, so don’t be shy!

The website will be updated on 24 May. The two items on the front page will become separate News items and we have an item about Kath ready to go on the front page. After that perhaps only 2 or 3 stories based on trophy winners. (I hope those I miss will not take offence but, for example, one of me posing with my one certificate won’t exactly be an Internet sensation!).
