I think you now know the image has to be on a website – either in a gallery here on the CPS site, or on a media-sharing site like Flickr, ImageShack or Picassa.  That’s the only way the file will have a web address (i.e. a ‘URL’).

Looks like your files are on your personal computer, so you can only ‘Attach’ them to posts, as you have done.

Paul >>> ImageShack:  use the URL in the ‘Direct’ link.

Look at the three screen shots on pages 3-4 of the  Guide and you’ll see what to do.

Still not feeling great but going to have a try … here goes …

    Mr Jones “Outing”

Ok I am just about to try for the 3rd time. The first time nothing. The 2nd the image appeared when I switched to visual but disappeared after I pressed submit. I think this is my last try.

Ok… same thing happened.  I wrote on visual, wrote the source code, link, end code in html, clicked on visual and could see the image and after pressing submit … it disappeared.

I have loaded another pic to my gallery and will try that now … fingers crossed.

ok the pic disappeared again. trying again.

There does seem to be a problem somewhere Ian. I am using the direct link and have tried the site one too along with every tweak and option I can think of.  I can see the image in visual until I submit it and it disappears.

There should be an image above this text but it vanished.  I am going to try the attachment option.

Ok … that works but you don’t get the intended full size display.  Ho hum. I need to lie down now 🙁

OK, this is me having a go at following the guide’s instructions.

Switching to HTML to enter the tag + URL…

…and now switched back to Visual!

Well, it works here, doing exactly what the guide says.

You must type the tag exactly as the Guide shows:

    First a <

then the six letters,  img src with a space in between

    then an = sign

    then open quotes ”

next, immediately with no space, the URL; and this should end immediately after the .jpg file extension – don’t include all the extra formatting info that some sites insert.

Next, again with no space, comes the close quotes ”

    and finally, a > sign.

So the only space anywhere in this lot is the one between ‘img’ and ‘src’.

So it will look exactly like this:

Now, about the URL… This has to be a direct link to the actual file itself, and not a link to a web page that just displays it.

The easiest way to get this right is to put your photo in a gallery on this site, right click its full size version, and select ‘Copy image URL’ or ‘copy image link’.  Then paste that as the URL in the tag.

You have to be more careful with file sharing sites.  Both Flickr and ImageShack offer links to their display page and links to the actual file, so you have to be careful to get the right one.

It’s the Direct link in ImageShack.

On Fickr, you look in ‘Share’ at ‘Grab the HTML/BB code’ and select the HTML radio button. You can copy all the code there.

You’ll see it contains 2 URLs.  The first is the web page, which just starts  ‘www.flickr.com/photos/username…’

The one you need comes next, and starts  http://farm9.staticflickr.com… which is the name of the actual server that the file is stored on.  Only copy this as far as and including the .jpg

(This is all so much harder to write than to do!  Perhaps we need a quick demo.)

And I guess this is what you were trying to do, D…

    Oh, hum!

I’ve attached a text file showing exactly what I typed in the HTML screen to make this happen.

    Trying again …
Done exactly as you have said and wondered if there was anything needed deleting after .jpg …. but there wasn’t.

trying a different site html code from image shack which includes src code at beginning and deleted a bit of site blurb after .jpg … here goes. Checking in visual before writing this and the image is there.  Now when I click submit will it disappear?  🙁

Just spotted your suggestion and am simply copying and pasting your attachment  below this in the HTML window. It did not work first time.  Trying again. Some new characters seem to add at the end before > in the HTML (should they) after you paste and if you go to visual then look back at html.

Not sure what’s happening there.  Just remove the additional characters, and make it look like it’s supposed to.

Ah, I see what you mean.  The code interpreter adds

    alt=”” /

to the end of the line.  That’s just to say that there’s no ‘alternative text’ included in the link.  Shouldn’t make any difference to the picture.
