John, thanks for your offer! That would be great! We must have posted at identical times yesterday!

    See you this evening!

    Like that idea!

Can’t make it on Thursday though as my wife’s birthday (a milestone one too!)

I echo the other views on here and also think that upgrading Photoshop is an unnecessary expensive for the amount of time we actually use it.

As you might have noticed from some of my other posts, I’m an advocate of using open source software. So, if we have a RAW file for a camera not supported by PS4 then we can always open it in an open source RAW converter such as RAWTHERAPEE and PHOTOVIA. Might be worth having a copy of one of those on the club laptop?

I’m sorry to say that this post makes me quite sad.

Doing demonstrations in front of a large number of people is NOT easy. So I applaud all those who give up their time and make an effort to produce them for the club during the open nights.

I myself, as part of my job role, have to do demonstrations so I know how difficult it is. It’s nerve wracking. Plus, no matter how much preparation has gone in, the technology has a habit of behaving unexpectedly. This on top of the pressure of doing a demo like this can make it very difficult. So, rather than criticizing those who are willing to do these demos for US, we should be supporting and thanking them for their efforts.

I got caught out when downloading GIMP a few months back. I downloaded it via a banner ad and ended up with a load of malware on my machine. So, only download GIMP (or any other open source software) from a recognized source.

I’ve downloaded and tried RAWTHERAPEE – a free and quite powerful RAW converter and was impressed with it.

I’m a Sony user and have been for a number of years now. I initially went for a Sony because of the easy availability of old Minolta lenses. I started with an A100 and have now progressed (modestly) to an A33. Have been very please with both cameras.

So, my advice is to ignore the Nikon/Cannon snobbery that you find and enjoy your Sony!

Sony make the sensors for Nikon cameras to start with! Plus I firmly believe that they are one of the most forward looking of the manufacturers at the moment. Just look at the reviews of their recent cameras for proof!

Good question John – I’ve no idea what the “c’t” stands for and the website doesn’t tell us either!

Thanks for the compliment on my yacht shot Peter! I knew though, when I entered it, that it wasn’t quite right in some way then Bob put his finger on it by pointing out that the horizon (or the other side of the river Crouch as it was) went straight through the yacht!

For me, the horizontal carpet 1/3 way up splits the picture into two very distinct images and I find my eyes flicking from top to bottom and back. Might be better to cropping and making two images?
