Only “minor” so in the great scheme of things does it really matter. This week celebrates 100 years of great suffragette movement– now wherever have we put that ladies cup???

TO crop or not to crop-that is the question. I do not know–but what is very nice is to see Delores back on the Forum. Must say I would agree with her comment as well.

Quite right Ian , I am sure you would agree that making  big work load demands on a computer it makes sense to ensure the computer is up to the job. My point being, people having problems with these programmes maybe expecting to much from their own particular computer.

Been looking at colour photos far to long  to be confused and  if as so often stated –get it right in camera and go from there. Yes it is the same photo–and a superb photo without doubt. But the current version has had the colour re adjusted to reduce the strength of blue -as I advised and is now perfect. Ian”s  previous comments re blue intensity could not be said about the current version. My colour balances on my monitor and my eyes are as near perfect that matters. Never ever had a comment that any images sent to club-  for Cheshire East –Flicker etc has there ever been a comment they are over or under saturated. That is because they are ok–as I have so often had to explain, its my knees that have gone not my eyes or brain–I have no doubt it will happen , but still I can determine colour correction without the need for PS  or LR.

Mmm… But does it still feel like the alpine sky above is clear, bright and intensely blue, and that the sun is shining outside the frame to the left?

Another great selection Ian. I must say my preference is the Iranian father with two daughters and dog on his lap. Class family portrait. Was watching Monty Don last nights tv on gardens in Iran. Such a beautiful place with their beautiful historic gardens and water gardens all open for the public. Beautiful place for photography  and the people have such class it exudes as it does in the portrait. Why do clubs restrict portraits to just one person?????

Well now on my monitor it would appear the current version on the home page has had the blue hue reduced. My sample above has had too much blue removed. The present new version is spot on. Perhaps my advice was taken.

Your sand dunes  Peter are superb. The lovely gradation of light is a photo of quality.

I would assume Wallace  refers to the subject broadly in the wider world rather than the strictures of club photography. Hence the reference to portrait paintings sculpture etc. outside the strictures of club photography. With this in mind does the portrait have to be a person dead or alive? Thinking of arguably the most beautiful artwork ever  Andromada . As there was no such person , then the statue by Olivieri  in the 16th century had to be his imagination based on Greek mythology. However I think Wallace you have defined a “Portrait” in as good a description that I have seen. Only photographic clubs could conspire to limit a portrait being of just one person.WHY???? Recently looking at a Victorian era portrait of two sibling sisters . The pose- the lighting-expressions clearly by a master photographer  the likes unseen in club photography which dishes up digital snapshots of someone in peculiar dress in the park and call them portraits. The greatest did-service of all is that by clubs in the skill of portraits. So much that judges now would not recognise an excellent portrait if they saw one. I will always remember and how blessed we were at Wilmslow to have the Desmond Groves studio. To look at the amazing portraits of the Cheshire Set. Class all round. Well done Wallace –well defined.

Ah -when music and photography met to give that memorable film clip never to be forgotten. When Andre Previn questions  Ernie Morcambe”s playing of Griegs piano concerto- Ernie took Previn by the collar saying –I am playing all the right notes–but not necessarily in the right order. !!!   There is nothing wrong with photography which is alive and kicking as seen by Flicker having millions of excellent images posted. The problem is attracting people into  photo clubs. My dear friend at Altrincham tells me they are down to 15 members. There are 5,000 people at Bentleys and almost the same at Leighton Hospital but we attract none. Then the Polish community??  Clubs need to study and explore into exactly what would bring in members. We are still the same as 60 years ago and need to move on. It is also within clubs. Members   providing  very high class photography –end of.  Five years on with this excellent website with Forum-but so few are bothered to participate. My friend gives  painting  art lessons each Monday and people queue round the corners to get in. There is the need and it is an opportunity for clubs to re-jig the whole concept that will appeal to the masses again.   A brain storm of one hundred ideas–here are two or three. Meet every two weeks—awards for best smart phone pic- best last summers holiday abroad image- members best pet photo(remember the Crewe Chronical -peoples pet photo”s always highly supported)  – pub lunch with a stroll around with cameras. So on and so on. Is the 70th Photo Album to be displayed.

Briefly-is the 70th  photo album being left on display–not heard about it lately . While you are quite right Peter, best leave out “Both sexes” as it gets misconstrued nowadays. In fact we are not a good mix are we. Mostly middle age to elderly with a few ancient vintage types like me. All white  British and doubt it will not alter very soon. All people are welcome.

Totally despair  with this forum format—not for the first time by far. Here just  typed a quite long thought out response–click submit and it has yet again disappeared. Give up.
