The Jim Harrison Trophy – 7th March 2013

March 8, 2013 in Crewe PS news

IanAndAdriansmWe have fond memories of Jim Harrison who celebrated his 100th birthday whilst a member with us. He showed a lot of our members the way when he was one of the first to buy a digital camera at age 98! Sadly he died not long after his 100th birthday but not before sponsoring the Trophy for the best digital image of the year.

In those days we had only one competition for this new-fangled medium, now we have four, this being the final competition where the best-of-the-best battle it out.

For a special competition you need a special judge and tonight we were privileged to have Adrian Lines ARPS EFIAP DPAGB ABPE, one of the stars of our Federation to do just that.

Adrian had us captivated as he brought his great experience to bear on our images. He was looking for something special to choose as his top scoring images.

We ask for a first in GENERAL and first in NATURE and then the judge is asked to select one trophy winner.

PAUL COMPTON won the GENERAL section with his Urban Alphabet, a matrix of the alphabet made up of separate small pictures where features of buildings represented the letters. It was very skilfully put together and was the image with something extra that Adrian was looking for. Then in the NATURE it was Ian Whiston’s Yellow Billed Oxpecker which took first place. The picture has won 15 or 16 awards and of course it was known to Adrian but we all agreed that it is a superb image and it was no surprise that the Trophy went to Ian Whiston.  Adrian and Ian  are pictured right by our webmaster Ian McNab. Next week we welcome another distinguished judge, Christine Widdall MPAGB EFIAP BPE5* to eye our prints in the Annual Competition. Some of those prints ha an airing at the L&CPU CLUB PRINT COMPETITION last weekend.
