This week we had the pleasure of viewing some of the most successful prints submitted to the L&CPU for their annual competitions in 2013. We were able to simultaneously project a digital photograph of the print too since they provide copies on disk.
There was a lot of useful discussion about what made each photograph a pleasing one and comments about the techniques used. This lead on to a demonstration of mounting prints by member Wallace Baxter LRPS. It can be quite an expensive process but Wallace had tips for us about how to successfully re-use our mounts and save a great deal! Cost is a factor in making exhibition prints less popular than the almost cost free PDIs these days but it would be a great pity is the print – the ultimate expression of the photographer’s art – were to die out (never!).
Two champions of prints visit us next week; Gordon Jenkins APAGB and Dianne Owen FRPS are champions of the print and have formed a new club called simply, SRGB. Their first task was setting up a new national print competition. On Thursday they are talking about judging, and who better when Gordon is one of the most experienced judges in the Union and Dianne one of the most successful photographers?
