At this week’s meeting we viewed all the prints in the latest L&CPU Folio. Since PDIs of the prints had been asked for the presentation of the accompanying AV was very good and improved our enjoyment of the prints.

After the break we had member Paul Hill talk to us. He had not publicised what he would talk about but Paul is such a versatile photographer and lively¬†speaker that we were all in eager anticipation. It turned out to be an account of a weekend he spent in Norfolk, attempting to get some nature shots and landscapes. There were tips galore and we got a real insight into how he works; crawling in the sand on Titchwell beach to get close to Sanderling, using local knowledge to search for Stonechat and Adders. Paul uses neutral density filters in his landscape work and he explained exactly how they were fitted and employed to even up the exposure by darkening the sky (graduated filter) or turn the waves and clouds to a gentle blur (“Big Stopper” high density filter). All this was fully illustrated with photos and maps. The lively presentation became particularly animated at one point when Paul explained that he took a camp bed instead of his usual inflatable one and found, too late, that it was too big for the tent!
