We always enjoy inter-club events because it’s interesting to see what our neighbouring clubs are doing. This season one club, Whitchurch CC has backed out of all external competitions and so our tri-battle with them and MCCC earlier in the year will be the last we will see of their work. That is a pity, especially since they belong to a different Federation, but we wish them well.

We continue to compete with Alsager CC, Nantwich and Sandbach and meet them in a major print competition – The Alan Challinor Trophy for monochrome prints, or simply, the Five Towns. Next year the loss of the Crewe-MCCC-Whitchurch competition will be compensated somewhat by MCCC (Mid-Cheshire Camera Club) joining in the Five Towns.

Back to the present and on 14th April  our meeting was our annual inter-club competition with Nantwich CC. We know Nantwich to have some excellent workers and we take our battle with them as a bit of a yardstick as to how we stand.

The atmosphere was tense but I’m afraid the Lifestyle Centre let us down rather in that we could not turn off the lights! We always prepare well but nobody would have considered that to be a possible problem! It did not affect judging the prints that much but obviously the PDIs could not be viewed as they should have been.

Our judge, Jane Lines, someone we hold in great esteem, was wonderful. She just took it in her stride and viewed the images on the laptop first time through. Then, with the brightness turned up a shade and a slightly smaller picture we went ahead.

As it happened it was the prints that we scored best with, Nantwich pulling back out lead on the PDIs. Crewe won 511 to 502, so we breathe a sigh of relief that we are up-to-scratch but we know that Nantwich will come back just as strongly next year to test our mettle. And there is always the Five Towns in September! RESULTS.
