These difficult times present a knock on effect in so many ways. We are asked to consider matters in respect of the clubs Subscriptions and put forward ideas and this would appear to be in two aspects. How to collect and how much. Well I would suggest purely as an emergency contingency arrangement in these uncertain times is this. Scrap the standard subscription. The committee bring in a temporary rule that membership subscription is paid by Direct Debit Monthly. Maybe £10 per month Direct Debit. This would ensure income and avoid cash or cheque handling and cashing in at the bank. Around about a tenner a month is less than the cost to members presently overall. ( IE Annual Sub–Attendance charge–and cost of traveling.) Simply to all members –a brief letter –a Direct Debit form and a pre paid self addressed envelope requesting an immediate return. It does seem CPS is honed to very serious photographers all producing exceptionally high quality photography–plus me. There would no doubt all would wish to support any measure to ensure the clubs finances are in good order. It may be worth setting up an Elite order group. They could compete for a special Elite award but they would be invited to pay £15 per month . In the words of Harold Wilson—-wring them till the pips squeak..

Thanks for your concern and for posting your suggestions Ken. There’s some interesting ideas there which would help the club. It’s a shame they’re posted a couple of days after our committee meeting otherwise we could have discussed them during the meeting. However, I’ll send then on for the thoughts of others.

We did have a lengthy debate concerning the finance of the club during the meeting. There are still a number of unknown issues like when we’ll be able to restart physical meetings, if we’ll have to pay anything to the Lifestyle Centre for reserving our room. Our Treasurer pointed out that we have a building society charities and clubs account that won’t accept BACS payments so she’s investigating openning us a bank account so members can pay by direct debit or bank transfer. Our Treasurer also said we still have our expenses of insurances, L&CPU and PAGB fees, website costs which we expect to be similar to last year. So member will need to pay the same membership fee, but of course they won’t be paying the £2:50 attendance fee while we have Zoom meeting. (Full Zoom subscription costs £12 an month, but Stephen Coyne kindly offered for us to use his subscription when he’s available).  We should know in a couple of weeks if we have the bank account set up and then decide how the members can pay.

Thank you Peter for explaining so well. This is as can be seen a very serious issue for the committee. If I may say to fellow members It is time we all get behind the officials with full support to resolve the issue of income once and for all. Most golf clubs/societies have an annual fee to ensure the finances are in order and sufficient. CPS have always been very lenient but it does seem in every ones interest all of us help to pay our way. My suggestion is £10 per month Direct Debit 12 months a year. As an example of the needs, next February the projector (currently mothballed due to Coved 19)will be ten years old. A new one would cost a few thousand pounds. So a twelve month DD fee costs little more than paid at present but regulates the income better. Now with ZOOM costing £12 monthly let us all get shoulders to the wheel and sort this to ensure a viable Society. So that is only my opinion for what it is worth.

Agree with you Ken, we need to secure the finances, I would however point out that some of our members are not as fortunate as some of us in regards to disposable income.

I think it is up to the individual as to how much over the agreed sub that each person pays, those that can should pay a bit more, after all we can’t it with us.

I am sure the treasure will be very accommodating however much and when you want to pay.

It was nice to meet up with you Wallace and have a brief chat. Quite right too, some could feel the pinch a bit. I thought my suggestion and that is all it is, was close to the amount members attending pay now with annual subs-attendance fee and travel for some. I so rarely attend through physical problems and only pay subs. But I would have no problem paying an overall inclusive charge. What is most important is a secure income for the club to run on. I again agree with you Wallace that some of us could help subsidise members on a tight income…..it would help us to know what is the minimum cash amount per year that is needed.

Thank you Wallace and Ken for your comments and for supporting the club so well. Wallace is right of course when he pointed out that some members can struggle to pay monthly lump sum, let alone a larger fee at the start of the season. During a Committee meeting some time ago we agreed to consider members individual financial circumstances. They just need to contact our treasurer to discuss it.
