Now the poetry
THE HOOVES OF THE HORSES
The hooves of the horses as bewitching and sweet
As the music earth feels from the iron shod feet
No whisper of lover, no trilling of birds
Can stir me as hooves of the horses have stirred
They spurn disappointment and trample despair
And drown with their drum beat the challenge of car
With scarlet and silk for their banners above
They are swifter than fortune and sweeter than love
On the wings of the morning they gather and fly
In the hush of the night time I hear them go by
The horses of memory thundering through
With flashing white fetlocks all wet with the dew
When they lay me to slumber no spot you can choose
But will sing to the rhythm of galloping shoes
And under the daisies no grave be so deep
But the hooves of the horses shall sound in my sleep

Thank you Peter, have a couple of other options I am following which may be FOC. Have used DS Colour Labs in the past and had forgotten about them.
The latest printed edition of the Artic Tern seems to have lost it’s tag!May 14, 2014 at 5:16 pm #6502
If I were to enter this image it would be in the Colour general section.
Have now printed and mounted 4 of these and depending on the mounts which range from off white to light grey and dark grey they all look good. I will now have to find someone to print on textured paper, has anybody any suggestions as to where I could get it done possibly a profesional photo trade printer?May 14, 2014 at 1:46 pm #6494May 13, 2014 at 5:36 pm #6474
Sorry Ian I do not know how to enbed a post. What I am trying to achive is a print for my own personal pleasure that is giving the impression of the delicate nature of the bird. The graceful flight and the form nearly angle like in the way it carries its wings. I will then have it printed on textured paper to give the impression of a water colour, I hope, that is plan A.
Have been printing some copies and find it is not easy to replicate what I want on the paper with what is seen on the screen. The screen is not light enough. After 4 atempts I think I am nearly there. This is not a competition image but one for artistic effect and my satisfaction in achiving it.May 2, 2014 at 3:09 pm #6364

That’s exactly who I thought could judge it but did not like to say. He would of course have to judge his own work!! ……could be interestingFebruary 17, 2014 at 3:19 pm #5797

That is a good idea John for beginners to be treated as such by the judge. However I think we need as a club to have a look at ourselves as to how we treat both new comers and new beginners to photography clubs. It can be very daunting going into a new environment and meeting new people for the first time. Perhaps something like a mentoring system may be needed, our membership is diminishing and I ask myself why. However people come and go from clubs for all sorts of different reasons. I think it is something that we must tackle next season.February 7, 2014 at 4:54 pm #5693
OK then John so we change the system, but then lets have a seperate PDI section for beginners so they can be marked against each other, using your new system. There could also be a beginners print section where they would enter on A4 size images on a smaller mount board. By doing this for beginners they may be enticed to compete. I understand there may be a system like this at mid cheshire.February 7, 2014 at 2:13 pm #5687
Agree totally with Delores keep the points scoring as it is. Why try to fix something that is not broken.
I would like to see a change to the competition entries with 3 entries per category in both PDI and prints. That is a total of 9 entries per competition.
If there are too many entries then the first 2 in any category would be the entry( decided by the competition secretary).
The print numbers in the Nature section are very low and as a personal view I would liked to have had the opportunity to have entered 3 Nature and 3 Colour prints in last night’s competition. I feel inhibited that I can enter 3 Mono prints but can only enter 3 in total for Nature and colour. We had only 9 Nature entries last evening and finished at just after 9pm so plenty of time for more images (he was a quick judge).
Keep the present system of the 7 best scores to count for the final league score, in all categories.November 18, 2013 at 12:15 pm #5327
