Crewe Photographic Society hold the bragging rights this season having won interclub competitions against our friendly local rivals from Nantwich and Alsager. In our recent competition against Alsager we saw 15 PDIs and 15 prints from each club to compete for the trophy. Judge Nick Berentzen CPAGB, BPE3* arrived without seeing any of the images in advance so took some time to review the prints before he started judging. He told us that the standard was very high and in the end it would down to his personal preference. We saw the print competition first and we won it by 275 marks to Alsager’s 263. The PDI competition was a lot closer, but we edged that by 271 marks to Alsager’s 267, so had a good victory of 546 to 530.
Stephen Coyne’s mono print ‘Me and my Family’ won the print competition with 20 marks. Stephen rarely prints his work anymore, so we dug this one from his archives as it is a favourite. It was Nick’s favourite as well. He told his like liked the emotion and story. The lady has a beautiful, smiling expression with bright eyes. 5 of our prints scored 19 marks! They were Kath Hill’s ‘Courting Grebes’, Peter Robinson’s ‘Muddy Rugby’, Keith Mulliner’s ‘Gannet landing with nesting material’, ‘A penny for your thoughts’ and ‘Erica with her flowers and pink ribbon’.
We also had the winning image in the PDI competition. Ian Whiston’s ‘Male Impala Chasing Female ‘ scored 20 Nicked thought the action was well caught and like the animals expressions, the lights and environment. Again we had 5 images which scored 19. They were Ian’s ‘Cheetah with Thompsons Gazelle’, Walace Baxter’s ‘The Gymnast’, Stephen Coyne’s ‘Samarinvagen Glacier’ and ‘Popping Up’
All the images that scored 19 and 20 can be seen in the slideshow above. All the results are in our Results page here.
