Congratulations to Keith Mulliner who won the Maurice Ashwin Trophy in our print portrait competition. Will Stead EFIAP CPAGB PSA 3 was the entertaining judge with a keen eye. Two of Keith’s professional studio portraits were placed 1st and 2nd. Kieth’s ‘Elle B’ won the trophy and Will like the professional model’s pose with her arms and hands hugging her body. Keith’s ‘Ashliegh with flower’ came second and Will again liked the pose and supporting background. He enjoyed the detail enhanced by the lighting in both of the portraits. Peter Robinson’s ‘Engineer’s Tea break’ came third and Will thought the environmental portrait had a good connection and warm colour pallet. Peter’s ‘Steampunk in Whitby’ was Highly Commended and Keith Mulliner’s ‘That look again was Commended.

The winner of the PDI portrait competition is awarded the Howard Edwards Trophy. This season Stephen Coyne’s monochrome ‘Night on the town’ took the honour. Will thought the chap looked dapper and the darkened background supported him well. The character’s face was lightened, which made it a target for the eye. Stephen also took 2nd place with his ‘The Conductor’. This is another fine monochrome study of a re-enactor of a conductor on a tram waiting to be paid. Will liked his shiny jacket and the man’s engaging expression. Ray Hill’s ‘The Old Trapper’ came third. Will told us the man’s character was brought out well. There was plenty detail in his beard and he had a thoughtful expression. Wallace Baxter’s ‘Teenager’ and Keith Mulliner’s ‘Darcie Louise’ were Highly Commended. Peter Robinson’s ‘The Candle Man’, ‘Master of the House’ and ‘Knock ya block off’ were all commended.
