Congratulation to Alsager who won, by a small margin, our inter-club competition against them. Alsager hosted the event on a cold night and made our members most welcome. The judge for the evening was Rebecca Entwistle. The competition has two sections, prints and PDIs, with 15 images from each club in both. The print competition was held first, and Alsager pipped us to the post by 256 to 249 marks. Alsager’s Andrew Donkin’s image of an orangutang entitled ‘Baby Climber’ scored 20, along with Peter Robinson’s equestrian photograph called’ Katie Corteen on Curra OKO’. Keith Mulliner’s studio portrait of a ballerina called ‘Erica on Point’ was awarded 19 and Wallace Baxter’s fine nature study ‘Brown Tree Frog’ scored 18.
In the PDI section, Rebecca awarded Stephen Coyne’s beautiful Arctic landscape ‘Glacier Dawn’ 20 points. She wished she’d been there to see it. Kath Hill’s excellent nature image ‘Majestic Mute Swan’ scored 19. The lighting made this picture bring out the texture in the feathers. Rebecca also enjoyed seeing the reflection in the water. ‘Village Weaver Nest Building’ by Ian Whiston scored 18. It shows one of these clever bird tying a knot. Stephen Coyne also got us 18 marks for his skilfully done ‘At Grandpa’s’ composite. However, once again, Alsager piped us by scoring 259 to our 253. So it was a close call with many excellent images on show. The overall score was 515 to Alsager, and we came second with 502 marks.
