Although it was our third and final PDI league competition of this season, the quality of work was still very high. Judge Rebecca Entwistle admitted that we made her task very difficult, especially in the nature section.

Wallace Baxter took won the Mono section with his well-timed ‘Pummel Horse Expert’. Rebecca liked the gymnasts expression, the composition and complementary background. Wallace also scored 19 for his rugby action ‘One to One’ which showed a player anticipating a tackle. Again, Rebecca thought the expression and stare of the player made the picture. Stephen Coyne’s delightful study of two ‘Otters’ also scored 19. Rebecca enjoyed its humour and thought they could be having a conversation.  Ray Hill’s London city scape ‘London Skyline’ and Kath Hill’s portrait of Graham Currey, ‘Wild Eyed Wizardry’ both were awarded 18.

The high quality nature section was hotly contested, with 9 of the 17 entries being help back. In the end, Rebecca awarded the winner because of its cuteness! Nobody was more surprised than Peter Robinson when his ‘Barbary Macaque and Baby’ won. Keith Mulliner’s ‘Barn Owl in Snow’ scored 19. Rebecca thought it was well exposed with good texture in the snow and owl’s plumage. Ian Whiston had his 3 entries in the top 5 positions. ‘Cheetah Cubs with Mother’ scored 19 and Rebecca liked the lighting and the arrangement of the group. Ian also scored 18 for his ‘Thompson’s Gazelle Fleeing Danger’ and ‘Cheetah Mum and cub bonding’.

Peter Robinson’s action images took the top two spots in the Colour General section. His photo of a long jumper, ‘Scary Jump’ won. Rebecca told us it was all about the lady’s expression and flying hair. Peter’s equestrian photo ‘Splash Dash’ was awarded 19 for its action and movement. Paul Hill’s fine study of the beached ‘Steam Trawler Sheraton wreck’ also scored 19. Rebecca appreciated the clever composition based on triangles. She also thought the exposure was spot on, and the sky topped it off. Wallace Baxter’s gymnastic photo ‘I am going to miss’ of a lady on the bars, was awarded 18, as was Stephen Coyne’s ‘Midland Stairway’.

Well done to all of the winners. See all the images that scored 18 and over above and the results are on our Results page here.
