Last night we had the company of Bob Dennis APAGB CPAGB AFIAP BPE 3*. He took us through a great variety of subjects which he has photographed. The talk, of course, was light-hearted and thoroughly entertaining and in some ways a good run up to next week when we have a session where the members’ work will be on display. Bob even showed the members what is meant by a “sequence” having just produced one for a similar session at his own club, Bebington.

There are so many things happening in the next few weeks. Most immediately we have the PAGB Print Championships on Saturday and the Crewe PS club excursion to Tutbury Castle on Sunday. Next Thursday the meeting will be members work and will include the ONE PIC CHALLENGE, images forwarded for CRITIQUE and (new idea) SEQUENCES of images which tell a story, look at aspects of something, anything where the pictures fit together. Coming up we have the Chester Inter-Club Print Competition on 5th November and later in the month the battle with Alsager. We also next week have the “hand-in” for the next PDI Competition. We also have the Bebington Salon on the way.

Whilst enjoying the exuberance of today’s constructed images many of us perhaps reserve our greatest admiration for photographs which have something special that the photographer has captured in a single shot. Just this week the work of Geoff Davies has come to my notice. Geoff is a member of Lancashire Monochrome. He is not able to do his darkroom work anymore but is enjoying reviewing and reprinting his work digitally. His monochrome pictures stand comparison with anything I have seen. Two of his fellow members have made a video about Geoff. We see him interviewed and we hear his wife talk about a selection of pictures and at the beginning and end the well-known documentary photographer Dennis Thorpe has a few words to say.

If you want to want an hour of pure delight in the company of  a true master of the art look here; Enjoy!
